Introduction Project
Target Marketing
The target audience for Sunderland College is 15 to 19 years
old; they are able to bring in many students as they offer a range of courses
to the target audience, and I will incorporate the courses into the collage and
add information about them in order to intrigue the target audience more.
They have no gender preference as they more focus is on age
and the education of the target audience. They prefer to have students that
have passed their GCSE’s but they are able to accommodate students who haven’t
passed.
The Colleges target audience makes me have to think about
having a more fun and youthful type of design as it will be more eye catching
and outstanding for them to be attracted to them.
I will use the collage colors in order to associate the
colors with the college, but they are bright colors, so this can help me more
to attract the target audience but also that the target audience associate the
colors with the college. It is very easy as your mind is able to contain easy
information and associate colors with certain subjects or objects.
Psycho-graphics
In the psycho-graphics area I believe that the target audience
are in the explorer and the aspirer.
The explorers most like to discover new things such as
subjects and activities, they are attracted to new or innovated brands, products,
and experience, they seek discovery. I believe that they are a main part of the
target audience as students have recently finished their GCSE’s and are ready
to gain new skills for their future careers, they also want to know more about
the type of other education after secondary school.
The aspires are wanting to status brands that show their
place in society. They are happy to invest in luxury brands goods and they
consider themselves stylish and on trend. I believe they are the main part of the
target audience as they are want to gain their status in society and show off
what they have earned and gained.
The Journey
I have been tasked to create a poster advertising Sunderland
College for a young target audience. The college mainly uses oranges, purples,
blues and pinks in their others poster and they are the main colours the
college use, I will incorporate these colours into my design so it will more
eye catching and represent the college.
I have sketched many designs for the poster but the one I
have chosen is a simplistic design which will stand out for others.
I will contain a collage of pictures of the colleges
building and displays and will edited to become a dark and a coloured tint on
top with a college colour. I will also contain an orange circle in the centre
of the poster for the name of the college and it will have a smaller circle next
to it with information about the colleges pass rate in students and information
on different courses they offer.

I will add more information about the college at the bottom
of the page in order to inform the target audience further on Sunderland
colleges success. The logo of the college will also be on the poster so it is
clear who the poster is owned by.
I have chosen this
design as the many other colleges have very bright colors so it can be very
eye catching for their target audience but I believe if I have a quite darker
background with a bright orange on top it will stand out more than others and
the colors complement each other more.
Another reason for this design is the target audience will
be more attractive to the poster as it is a simple design but has a lot of
detail such as all the pictures I will edit with different colours, the colours
will be the colleges colour but darker in order for the orange circle to main
centre point.
For the font of the text, it will be a bold font as it wants
it to stand out and main focus of the poster. The smaller text will be in the
same font but smaller size in order to make them become more focused on the
poster and pay more attention so they will remember it later.
I have been using different colours in order to create a
colour theme for the poster as I wanted to determine what would be the best
colour gradient for the poster. I want to ensure that it is a soft transition
with different colours. The colour theme is mainly oranges, blues and purples.
I will not have the colours so bright as it will distract from the main focus,
the circle.

In order to achieve
the final product I had to experiment with different types of layouts and pictures.
In this picture you can see that I am experimenting with different types of
collages and filters for pictures. I wanted to ensure that I had the right type
of tints on the pictures in order to compliment the font and the main focus of
the poster.
I decided to recreate each design plan in order to see which
one is the most appropriate for the College. While creating each type of design
I was able to combine some in order to make the final product as I mixed two
design plans together.
As you can see, I created gradients of the college colours
in order to see which one would work the best with each other. I decided to use
blue to orange as they are two of the main colours of the college but also,
they are opposite of the colour wheel, so they complement each other the most
and are able to make the poster more seen and noticeable. I originally was
going to choose the blue to pink but I decided against it as the pink was not
one of the main colours of the college but also, they did not complement each
other as much as the orange and blues. Also, I felt as if it was childish since
blue and pink are most known for girls and boys, it also made me feel like if I
used these colours, it would not be as exclusive as they college is as they
support the lgbtq+ community.
I have gained some feedback from my family and peers as they
believed that the colours of the pictures where too light and that I should
make them stronger in order to make them standout more and see the gradient of
colours in the background. I did this and this made the poster more eye catching
and compliment the main focus of the poster the circle. Also I gained from some
from my family about the placement of the pictures as they believe they weren’t
in the best position they could be in order to support the main focus of the
poster, so I decided to change the positioning of most of the pictures and I was
very pleased with the outcome as they are in best position they can be in but
also they are also showing more of the picture so they target audience can see
what type of experience you will have at college and what it looks like.
Evaluation
I believe I meet the criteria of the brief very well as I was
able to create a advertisement product for Sunderland College. I believe this
as I have done my research about the college and other types of posters for
other colleges and university and see the differences and the similarities between
them. I would not be able to create a advertisement for the college if I did
not look into my client and see what they offer and the type of community they
have around them.
For the target audience, I believe I have met their
expectation as I have conducted in depth research such as demographics and psychographics
to understand what type of people they are and what type of things they like. As
they are a younger category, they would like modern types of posters and a design
that is not a basic compared to other posters they will mostly likely they see.
I wanted to reach them through the background of the poster as many other posters
they will see will have bland and block coloured backgrounds and that is
something I do not want to offer to the target audience.
If I were to do something differently, I believe I would change
the main focus from a circle to a detailed ribbon or a stand in order to make it
different and stand out from other types of posters, this would also compliment
the collage of pictures behind the ribbon as it would lead from near the top of
the poster to the bottom of the poster.
